interlaced

she came home to a bouquet
of red roses interlaced
with baby’s breath sitting prettily
on the kitchen counter

she found him standing
at the door smiling
and oh, the deep blue eyes she so loved

he told her the roses
beckoned to him begging
to be carried home to the queen
deserving of them

she smiled and accepted his embrace
eyes in tears, as the images came flashing back
of the love of her life
and the best of her friends
picking out a bouquet
of red roses and baby’s breath
at the corner florist today,
their fingers
interlacing
