a trip to the shore

born near the ocean, she made
terraced hills her home
where the forest was often silent
and the only thing making noises
was the mountain breathing

one day on her trip to the shore
she felt waves lapping at her feet
since then she’d been wanting to know
what it would be like to live
at the bottom of his soulful sea
