I stumbled upon you

I stumbled upon you when I was an abandoned soul. I remember being so captivated by the openness of your heart, I was ready to undress mine and spill it all.

Time seemed to freeze when your fingers brushed against my cheek. Cupping my face in the palms of your hands, you let me explore your eyes, the deepest blue I’d ever seen.

I felt your breath on my neck, steady yet rushed, and I was a page surrendering to exquisite pen dancing above me, impatiently waiting to be drenched in ink.

For once, you became more than fleeting shadows in a dream. Our fingers entangled, limbs entwined, hearts beating as one. For once I could reach out and touch the shell of your soul—my world, in the flesh.

Traversing your core, I wondered what tomorrow would bring. What of the void in your absence? Now that I knew what your passion tasted like, I would be forever left wanting.

I did not know it then, but my heart pushed me down on my knees, succumbing to the power that was you and all that you were, breaking every rule and crossing all lines.

I plucked moments from borrowed time, wore the memory of you like a necklace—around my neck, its pendant hanging closely to my heart, so it heard the beat for as long as I would live.

Never would we stray from our path, for our love’s mystic eyes would hover and watch over us—oh, how we had come this far yet just embarked on a lifelong journey all the same.

One day we would look back on this road, not to have the past resurrected, but to see where we had been and how we had hurt, and to swear never to go back there again.

Addicted I am now to you, so much I promised never to let my heart get ripped away from its source of life that is your soul. I’ve jumped and died and there’s no turning back—this is everything.

Our steps, tentative but no longer afraid. Starfall overhead, moonbeam throughout. Sounds of my name on your lips, more beautiful than dawn’s dew, wispier than dusky clouds. Your shadow swallowed me and I curled into you.

Perpetual twilight was a blessing in disguise, for I was a child of sunset, and I found you on the eleventh hour, where road was heading toward a destination of no choices. But you were there, and you had become my destination.

I stumbled upon you when I was a soul lost in limbo, and only by virtue of audacity did our hearts fly across the universe, finding each other even before fate said it was time—the rebels that we were.
