debugging destiny

so I gifted myself

in your absence
I listen to what
he has to say

not that he will ever
be a replacement

never will he have
your insights and wisdom

but he symbolizes
the end state

where I painted you

this time last year

funny how yesterday clings
just when I think tomorrow
is snug in the clutch of my hand

maybe I’ve fallen into a hole
where time freezes
never returning to the present

and the future means nothing
when I still belong
to the past

house for sale

fresh coat of paint
furniture re-arranged
flowers on corner tables

tapestry taken down
no one wants to see the past
hung on the wall

chest of drawers
is in the dumpster—
still full of why’s and should’ve’s
I no longer need

if you can’t bring sunshine
on day of open house

then you should leave

two tales

a soul lives
in the here and now
trundling along in reality
arriving from the past

it aches for
a tomorrow
where magic twirls
whimsies whirl
and for once
dreams become something
so near and real
the heart can touch and tuck away
in its pocket
